A257 Blocked: Fallen Tree Disrupts Traffic Between Canterbury and Sandwich (2026)

A Busy Road's Unexpected Hindrance: Fallen Tree Causes Chaos

A bustling A-road has been brought to a standstill by an unexpected obstacle: a fallen tree. The scene, captured in a picture, depicts the tree lying across the A257 at Littlebourne, causing significant disruption for drivers. The main route between Canterbury and Sandwich is now a one-way street, with drivers having to stop and turn around to navigate the fallen tree.

The incident has also impacted public transport. Stagecoach, a bus company, announced on X that their 43 services will be diverting from Wingham to Canterbury via the Adisham Road and the A2 in both directions until further notice. This diversion is a result of the fallen tree on Littlebourne Road, causing inconvenience for commuters.

This disruption comes in the wake of Storm Goretti, which brought fierce winds to Kent on Thursday night. The storm's aftermath was evident near Folkestone, where huge waves breached sea defences, strewn vehicles across the road along Sandgate Esplanade, and caused widespread damage.
