Perelle Seawall Undergoing Emergency Repairs
The Perelle seawall in Guernsey is currently undergoing emergency repairs due to recent high tides and strong winds that have caused coping stones to become loose and displace. The Coastal Infrastructure Team and Guernsey States Property Unit have announced that essential repairs are necessary to prevent further damage.
The repairs are expected to continue until Friday, and temporary traffic lights will be set up on Route de la Perelle. During this time, drivers will need to take alternative routes, as there will be no exit onto the main road from La Biloterie Road. However, traffic will still be able to enter the main road.
Marco Tersigni, infrastructure officer, explained that remedial repairs are often required at this time of year due to the constant battering that Guernsey's sea defenses and coastal features endure. He emphasized the importance of swift action to prevent further damage during stormy weather.
Additionally, the States have announced that Rue de la Maladerie will be closed on Friday, December 19th, to allow Guernsey Water to conduct a CCTV drainage survey. This closure is separate from the seawall repairs and will require drivers to plan alternative routes for that day as well.
