Pramac eyes a future MotoGP star reminiscent of Valentino Rossi, aiming for a full-time ride in 2027
Pramac Yamaha’s team principal Gino Borsoi has praised Izan Guevara for his noticeably flexible adaptation after a test on the Yamaha M1, expressing optimism that the experience could help him earn a seat in MotoGP for 2027.
Guevara, a 21-year-old Spaniard, already boasts an impressive résumé, with titles in the European Talent Cup and the Moto3 Junior World Championship in 2019 and 2020. He secured a race victory during his Moto3 grand prix debut season in 2021 with Aspar and went on to win the world title the following year.
Transitioning to Moto2 proved challenging at first in 2023, but his results improved in the latter half of 2024. A move to Pramac this year unlocked further potential, culminating in his first Moto2 victory at Valencia. That triumph earned him a MotoGP test with Yamaha as part of an agreement with Pramac chief Borsoi.
During a brief 10-lap run at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, Borsoi stated in a Yamaha video that Guevara was already performing at a level comparable to established MotoGP riders.
"He had a very strong test," Borsoi commented. "After just a few laps, he was already on par with the rest of the MotoGP riders. The speed at which he understands what needs to be adjusted on the bike is impressive. I believe this capability could be the key to a 2027 MotoGP move."
Borsoi has consistently spoken highly of Guevara. In a 2024 Marca interview, the Italian compared the Spaniard to MotoGP icon Valentino Rossi, describing him as having a "brutal talent." He recalled being asked in Japan whom Guevara resembles and concluded that the young rider mirrors Rossi in his unwavering drive to race, his hunger to win, and his immersive involvement in the paddock. Borsoi added that Guevara possesses immense natural talent, noting that Guevara’s temperament and jokes aside, his work ethic likens him to Rossi at a young age.
If Guevara can start the 2026 Moto2 season strongly for Pramac, he could be positioned to debut in MotoGP in 2027. At present, Jack Miller’s contract runs only through the end of 2026, leaving a possible vacancy for a 2027 ride. Lewis’s move to Crash.net in August 2024 brought new perspectives to MotoGP coverage, building on five years of prior reporting for Motorsport Network.
Would Guevara’s ascent mirror Rossi’s legendary path, or would the comparison spark fierce debate about the next breakout star? Share your thoughts in the comments on whether Guevara is truly poised to emulate Rossi’s trajectory, or if another path might suit him better.
