Trek Factory Racing XC is bidding farewell to two rising stars, Madigan Munro and Gunnar Holmgren, ahead of the 2026 season, as part of a broader wave of departures from the team. The news, released amid several other team changes, notes that both riders will leave Trek after a whirlwind 2025 campaign.
Munro has spent five years with Trek, steadily climbing the ranks and posting top-20 results in her first elite season this year. Holmgren, who joined Trek late in the previous year, capped the season with a solid 26th-place finish in the Elite Men’s XCO at Lake Placid.
In their farewell messages, both riders expressed deep appreciation for the experiences and friendships formed during their time with Trek. Munro spoke about the lifelong bonds she built—from early-season WorldTour road camps to year-end gatherings at Trek HQ in Waterloo, where teammates shared laughter, hockey games, and memorable travels through South America, Europe, and North America. She emphasized how the journey has shaped her as both athlete and person, and hinted at future opportunities beyond Trek.
Holmgren echoed similar sentiments, noting how he enjoyed meeting the dedicated people behind Trek and riding in the Trek colors for a year. He highlighted the camaraderie of teammates and the ongoing support from the factory team, while also mentioning how he’ll miss the team dynamics and the family-like atmosphere that characterized their XC World Cup trips.
Trek has not yet announced 2026 XC team additions. However, the company previously confirmed that Vlad Dascalu would return to Trek Factory Racing-Pirelli XC for a full World Cup schedule in 2026, following the end of a 17-month UCI suspension for whereabouts violations. Trek expressed enthusiasm about Dascalu’s return and his preparation for a full World Cup slate next year.
As for Munro and Holmgren’s next destinations, plans remain undisclosed. Trek says updates will follow as more information becomes available.
